Here you go peoples! New and old artists/bands:
Auf Der Maur
Auf Der Maur
[Release Date: June 1]
The lowdown: The modern rock hordes will remember Melissa Auf Der Maur as the flame-haired bassist with Hole and Smashing Pumpkins. Now she's gone solo with some help from Queens of the Stone Age guitarist Josh Homme. Her debut rocks with the ferocity of her old bands, and stomps all over your speakers with a huge leer on its face. Sexy!
What she said: "I organized everything from ordering the pizza to hiring the studio engineer to calling my friends and saying 'Hey I'm making a record, and I don't have any money! Would you like to come down and play?'" (NME)
--------------------------------------
PJ Harvey
Uh Huh Her
[Release Date: June 8]
The lowdown: Even Harvey was a little taken aback by the success of her sixth album, Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea. She's described its pop slant as an "experiment." For the follow-up, she explores her tender side with no one but herself for company. The album is almost totally self-played, and the bare-bone arrangements only enhance the sense of intimacy and the singer's trademark passion.
What she said: "Some of the songs are very gentle, very loving; with others I had a lot of fun in the words I used and the way I sang them." (Mojo)
------------------------------
Bad Religion
The Empire Strikes First
[Release Date: June 8]
The lowdown: Bad Religion do not like George W. Bush. And, as their name implies, they also have a thing against organized worship. The West Coast punks' thirteenth studio album takes aim at both. With titles like "Let Them Eat War" and "Los Angeles is Burning" bolstered by their fascist-slaying guitar Armageddon, it's apocalyptic music for apocalyptic times.
What singer Greg Graffin said: "The songs are universal enough that in ten years time they should still hold up quite well."
---------------------------------
Velvet Revolver
Contraband
[Release Date: June 8]
The lowdown: By our count, only one member of this ex-Guns N' Weiland outfit has avoided a dalliance with drugs. Their insurance company may fret about that, but hard rock fans are rejoicing: this is the record of gloriously addled trash that the mighty GNR should have made in 1994.
What Duff McKagen said: Who cares? Dude, Duff McKagen is back!
-----------------------------------------------
More to be added soon!
